Isola Santa, hamlet of Careggine (LU) - Lake of Isola Santa - Tuscany

Isola Santa is a small hamlet in Careggine, in the Serchio Valley, Garfagnana. This hamlet is characterized by an artificial lake called Lago di Isola Santa, which was created in 1948-49 by constructing a dam on the Edron River.

During the dam's construction to create the artificial lake, the waters submerged many houses and structures of the ancient town. This has led to the abandonment and disappearance of part of the original settlement.

However, Isola Santa is a visible and accessible village, and the artificial lake has created a suggestive landscape and a unique environment.

Isola Santa offers several hiking trails to explore the surrounding area. You can take pleasant walks surrounded by nature and admire breathtaking views.

Tibetan Bridge of Vagli

Not far from the village, you can visit the Tibetan Bridge of Vagli, a suspension bridge that offers a spectacular view of the valley below. It is an exciting experience for adventure lovers.
