City of ceramics and water. This ancient art marks the economic and artistic identity of the town. An area rich in history and unspoiled nature... #tuttitaly
Gualdo Tadino, the city of ceramics and water, is at the foot of the Apennines, dominated by the imposing Rocca Flea.
The fortress, rebuilt by Frederick II in the mid-13th century and restored by Biordo Michelotti in the 14th century, houses the Museum of Ceramics, bearing witness to the ancient art that, from the 19th century onwards, marked the economic and artistic identity of the city.
The historical center houses the Church of San Benedetto (13th century), which houses the urn with the remains of the Blessed Angelo.
The territory of Gualdo Tadino is rich in woods, pine
forests, and large expanses of meadows. The panorama is even more suggestive thanks to essential mountains such as Monte Penna, Monte Nero, Monte Maggio, and Serrasanta: destinations for trekking, hiking, and mountain biking enthusiasts.
There is no shortage of very freshwater springs and refreshment areas.
Manifestations
On the last weekend of September, with the "Giochi de le Porte," the town immerses itself in a medieval atmosphere by reviving the ancient Palio of San Michele Arcangelo, patron saint of the city. For the occasion, the streets are tinged with the colors of the four gates: San Benedetto in a blue field, San Donato in a white lot, San Facondino in a green lot, and San Martino in a red lot;
these compete for the Palio and the privilege of burning
the effigy of the Bastola, the "witch" considered responsible for the terrible fire that destroyed the city of Gualdo.
Gastronomy
Among the typical products of the area are extra virgin olive oil from Nostrale di Rigali and white and black truffles.
