Goro (FE) - Po Delta Regional Park - UNESCO World Heritage Site - Emilia Romagna

Today Goro is a modern port that preserves parts of the fishing village of the past. Fishing and mussel farming is at the forefront of the local economy, and the local flotilla exceeds 2,500 boats. Do not miss the Scannone di Goro, defined as the Island of Love... The Delta has no less than two #UNESCO titles: since 1999, the Ferrara part of the Po Delta has become a World Heritage Site, to which the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve was added in 2015... #tuttitaly

Goro (FE) - Po Delta Regional Park - UNESCO World Heritage Site - Emilia Romagna

Goro is a vital fishing port built on the northeastern border of the vast protected area of the Po Delta Regional Park.

The inhabited area was formed in the first half of the 18th century on the right bank of the Po, between the river and the sea: the first houses were built, cane huts, later replaced with brick houses.

Here water is the dominant element, which shapes the territory to your liking.

And, over time, the inhabitants have become good at making them an ally. Their most precious asset comes from the water: clams. Here 60% of Italian clams and more than half of European ones are produced.

What to see

Marina di Goro is a small tourist port, where colorful boats, water, and perfumes make this place poetic. In addition to being the starting point for excursions on the Po Delta, the Port is also home to two shipyards, the sailing school and Goro Passione Mare for sport fishing.

You could explore the Sacca di Goro, a lagoon of about 2700 ha, enclosed between the Po di Goro and the Po di Volano, where fishermen strive to have the highest production of clams in all of Italy. Here, in addition to the vegetation, the local birdlife is also of particular interest. You can meet: swans, cormorants, mallards, herons, oystercatchers, shag, and flamingos.

In addition to unspoiled nature, birdlife, and breathtaking landscapes, you will be particularly fascinated by the Island of Love, a long strip of sand that divides the Sacca di Goro from the Adriatic Sea.

The Lighthouse of Goro

If you want to stay overnight in an unusual place, you could opt for the Faro di Goro, used as a hotel: it offers, in fact, five rooms with breakfast and an equipped beach on the Island of Love. (for info: 0533778608).

For cyclists ...

At the Destra del Po, there is one of Italy's longest cycle paths, boasting 125 km in length. Since Kevin is a little older to be able to ride a bike, I can't wait to go back, but to go along the Goro-Volano cycle path together, which is about 8 km long. As a start, it will be fine. And I will come back to tell you about our experience 🙂
