The Achille Papa Refuge is located at the gates of the Pasubio. It was built in 1921 on the remains of a masonry shelter where soldiers took refuge from the Austrian artillery during the First World War.
The name is dedicated to the general Achille Papa.
Over the years, it has undergone modernization and restoration works. Today it contains 60 beds and hosts local visitors throughout the summer period from June to September and on weekends in October and November.
Choosing to stay in refuge means sharing and dealing with a reality different from every day. No single rooms exist, but you sleep in dormitories, eat at the table, and use shared bathrooms.
Given the chronic water shortage, the shelter is only supplied with rain water, so you cannot shower.
Conventions and comforts are abandoned to acquire a reconciliation with nature and a sharing with those who love it. (Cit.: Caischio. it)
This refuge is the final stop and is almost mandatory to do immediately after the last of the 52 tunnels.
