Located on the hill overlooking Sarzana and the Magra Valley... #tuttitaly

The Sarzanello Fortress is an imposing fortified structure located on the Sarzanello hill in Sarzana, in the province of La Spezia, in Liguria. Built-in the 14th century, the fortress stands majestically at around 200 meters above sea level, dominating the city of Sarzana and offering a panoramic view of the surrounding valley.

The fortress is characterized by mighty stone walls, watchtowers, and defensive bastions, which testify to its strategic defense function over the centuries.

Access to the fort is through an imposing portal surmounted by a drawbridge once raised to protect the entrance.

Inside the fortress are several structures, including the ancient soldiers' rooms, prisons, and casemates. The soldiers' rooms are characterized by cross vaults and are furnished with period objects and weapons, which allow visitors to immerse themselves in the military life of the past.

Prisons, on the other hand, are dark and narrow spaces, which testify to the living conditions of prisoners.

The watchtowers, strategically positioned along the walls, offer a panoramic view of Sarzana and the surrounding hills. From here, soldiers could survey the territory and report any threats.

A large park and picnic areas surround the Sarzanello Fortress.

The park is characterized by centuries-old trees and lush vegetation, which create a suggestive and relaxing atmosphere.

Today, the fortress is open to the public and hosts cultural events, exhibitions, and shows. Its fascinating history and panoramic position make it an ideal destination for lovers of history, architecture, and nature.
