A lookout over the Tiber where there are only 39 inhabitants in the village... #tuttitaly
Foglia, a hamlet of Magliano Sabina, is an enchanting village that stands like a lookout over the Tiber River. Despite its small size, with only 39 inhabitants, this place is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
The beating heart of Foglia is Piazza Castello, from which the streets that connect and lead to the village branch off. Crossing the access arch, you immerse yourself in via di Mezzo, a road that begins with a slight descent and then climbs up in its second half to the entrance of the suggestive Church of Santa Maria Assunta. The latter constitutes the final part of the majestic Palazzo Orsini, dating back to around 1200.
On the right of the square, Via Tevere opens up, which separates Palazzo Valignani-Orsini from the fascinating houses in front. This road leads us to a magnificent viewpoint overlooking the Tiber Valley. From here, the panorama opens onto the majesty of the Autostrada del Sole, the Rome-Florence railway, and the Tiber River, which, with its sinuous meanders, bathes extensive cultivations and offers an anchorage in Porto Sant'Agata, an active place since ancient times of ancient Rome.
Looking further into the background, the imposing profile of Mount Soratte stands out, a place of worship for the Sabines, the Etruscans, and the Romans. And, in the distance, you can admire the Sabatini and Cimini mountains, which add a touch of majesty and mystery to this fascinating panorama.
Foglia is a place that enchants with its beauty and its unique atmosphere. A village that, despite its modest population, stands proud as a lookout over the Tiber, guarding the history and tradition of this beautiful Italian region.
