Fabriano (AN) - Church of San Filippo - Marche

Fabriano, located in the province of Ancona, is an important industrial center, thanks to the production of paper (Cartiere Miliani Fabriano) and household appliances (the industries of the Merloni family: Indesit Company, Ariston Thermo Group, and those that produce extractor hoods: Elica, Fabers, etc.)

In 2013, UNESCO included Fabriano in the list of Cities of Creativity: cities that have been able to develop their economy thanks to creativity.

One of Fabriano's symbolic products is the historic F2, F4, and F6 album, smooth or rough, sheet children in schools use for drawing.

The paper business was born in the 1200s.

Do not miss the Paper and Watermark Museum housed in the former convent of San Domenico. The visit itinerary illustrates the main stages in the history of paper in Fabriano. Educational workshops are also organized, which teach the various steps to make a sheet of paper.

A visit to the city's monuments can begin in the Piazza del Comune, in the center of which is the octagonal fountain symbol Sturinalto from 1285.

Some of the most critical buildings overlook the square: the Palazzo Podestà, the Palazzo del Comune, and the Loggiato di San Francesco, dating back to the mid-1400s.

The Palazzo Podestà was built in 1255 in the Gothic style in white stone from Vallemontagnana. The Clock Tower flanks the seventeenth-century Palazzo del Comune, and on the back, we find the Gentile Theater built in 1692, destroyed by fire, and rebuilt in 1884.

The historic Mazzolini and Giuseppucci pharmacy museum from 1896, entirely made of wood by the Perugian Adolfo Ricci, is noteworthy.

Gastronomy

Fabriano is a Slow Food presidium thanks to the production of Salame di Fabriano, an exceptional pork salami characterized by large fats.
