Dolo (VE) - Cathedral of San Rocco - Brenta Riviera - Veneto

Dolo is a municipality in the province of Venice, located along the Riviera del Brenta, an area that owes its charm to numerous eighteenth-century villas.

Regarding the name Dolo, there are various hypotheses: according to some, the town owes its name to some affluent local families, such as the Dotti or the Dauli; according to others instead, it derives from the fact that in ancient times Venice sent people stained with guilt here; according to still others, the name derives from the term doglione which in the Middle Ages indicated a type of turret.

A document from 1241 testifies to the presence of one of these turrets right along the banks of the Brenta.

The expression "Do you come from the Dòeo?" (But do you come from Dolo?) used when addressing a person who is not considered very smart, it finds no justification given that Dolo is a picturesque municipality inhabited by brilliant people.

Located halfway between Padua and Venice, Dolo was for a long time the heart of the economy and craftsmanship of the Brenta Riviera:

here, there were mills, post inns, and the squero where boats were built.

Dolo has a historic center full of picturesque and evocative landscapes.

The old burchielli, wooden boats for the transport of passengers, which in past centuries connected Padua to Venice, and which allowed tourists to admire the beautiful villas of the Brenta, have today been replaced by modern boats, which will enable you to admire the untouched beauty of the Brenta Riviera.

Tortona del Dolo

Tortona is the typical dessert of the city for which the Proloco di Dolo "Association of the Dolese lands" has registered the trademark "TORTONA DEL DOLO-TYPICAL PRODUCT" to safeguard an ancient typically Dolese tradition.
