Colli a Volturno (IS) - Molise

Better known by Molise as "the little Paris"... #tuttitaly

In the Volturno Valley, 400 meters above sea level, stands Colli a Volturno. The municipality has 1 312 inhabitants.

Colli a Volturno is located in an enchanting setting and gives us a lot, both from the historical point of view and the beauties to admire. For this reason, it is better known by the Molisans as "the little Paris."

The territory is mainly hilly, interspersed with wide flat spaces.

The principal hills are Monte San Paolo, where there is the "Samnite city wall," six kilometers long; Monte La Falconara, covered by coppice with a vast pine forest at the base where there is a water source; Monte Cervaro, where the mobile telephone and national and regional television stations are located.

The territory was already inhabited in the 7th century BC. by the Samnites.

In the historic center of Colli, there is the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, the tallest and oldest structure in the town, dating back to the beginning of the 11th century.

The main church is dedicated to San Leonardo, protector of prisoners and patron saint of Colli.

Also admired are the Church of Sant'Antonio di Padova, the ruins of the Angevin Tower, the baronial palaces, the Roman aqueducts, the necropolis, and the Cyclopean walls.
