The Church of the Assunta, also known as the Church of the Crucifix, was designed by Torreggiani around 1748 and built on behalf of the ancient Confraternity of the Assunta to replace the old church next to the Carmelite convent.

The front of the church has three doors and a large window.

The interior is enriched by two altars: one on the left, from 1784, the work of the Medici architect Francesco Saverio Fabri, carried out before his definitive departure for Portugal; one on the right, in neoclassical style.

The apse houses the niche of the Crucifix with angels, by Massimiliano Putti, and the two statues of the prophets David and Isaiah, by Bernardo Bernardi.

The church preserves the venerated paper-mâché image of the Crucifix from the second half of the sixteenth century.

Every Good Friday, the image is carried in procession through the streets of Medicina.
