Located in the heart of Spello, the Church of Sant'Andrea is an architectural gem rooted in medieval history. Built in the first half of the 11th century under the aegis of the Camaldolese Abbey of San Silvestro a Collepino, the church has undergone numerous transformations over the centuries, becoming an important religious center of the city.

In 1253, the structure passed into the hands of the Franciscan Friars Minor, who undertook significant restoration and built a convent adjacent to it. This work was made possible thanks to indulgences granted by the pontiffs, reflecting the importance of the religious community in the sociocultural landscape of the time.

The interior of the church features a Latin cross plan with a single nave covered by a cross vault, creating an evocative and contemplative atmosphere. A major restoration took place in 1913, when artists Benvenuto Crispoldi and Giovanni Tucci gave the church a new Gothic appearance, contributing to the preservation of its artistic heritage.

Particularly noteworthy is the Baptistery Chapel, built between 1497 and 1499, known as the First Baglioni Chapel.

Another marvel of the church is the Chapel of the Sacrament, which houses an extraordinary wooden altarpiece with a remarkable panel commissioned from Pinturicchio in 1506.

The walls of the nave are adorned with precious frescoes, such as the Madonna and Child with Saint Anne, dated 1532 and attributed to Tommaso Corbo, and the Meeting of Saints Joachim and Anne, painted in 1565 by Dono Doni.

The Church of Sant'Andrea, with its rich history and artistic heritage, continues to be a place of pilgrimage and reflection, enchanting visitors with its beauty and spirituality.
