Bubbio (AT) - First organic wine - Piedmont

The territory of Bubbio is characterized by wine-growing hills, which are part of a thousand-year-old identity made of history, art, and nature.

Bubbio, which rises near Canelli and Acqui Terme, recalls the thermal tradition of Imperial Rome and is characterized by the cultivation of the vine, as evidenced by the Roman wine amphora in the town's municipal coat of arms. This intrinsic reality of values has been shared with the world, thanks to the inclusion by UNESCO of a large area of Langhe and Monferrato in the World Heritage Site.

Short Story

In the second half of the 1800s, the gradual transition from sharecropping began in the great aristocratic and ecclesial estates in Piedmont to small peasant properties. In this period, the Torelli farm was born, with the purchase of two farmhouses in the town of Bubbio by the two great-grandparents of Gianfranco Torelli (a passionate winemaker who today represents the fourth generation of winemakers).

From this initiative, the Cantina Mario Torelli was born, which today presents itself as an authentic winemaking reality that rises, with its two centuries of history, right in Bubbio, in the province of Asti.

Organic wine

In 1987, Gianfranco's parents began to put the rules of organic farming into practice. This choice, perhaps dictated by a far-sighted vision, allowed their wine - Moscato d'Asti - to obtain, in September 1992, the first certification from organic farming in Italy.

The Torelli family, present with 80,000 bottles of organic wine worldwide, has always treated the vines with care and dedication, raising them in an uncontaminated environment in full respect of biodiversity and the territory's characteristics.

If you visit the Torelli vineyards in May, you will immerse yourself in a world full of scents and aromas: flowers, plants, insects, and birds. A colorful world that lives and revolves around the vineyards, protected with natural methods such as mustard plants among the rows of vines, or the avifauna itself, which turns out to be better than any insecticide.
