On a hill 127 meters above sea level stands the ancient village of Metapontino, called Bernalda. From here, you can get lost with your gaze on an endless horizon between the Basento valley and the profile of the Ionian Sea, which is about 15 km away.

Bernalda is a stop you cannot miss when you take a trip to Basilicata.

The historic center stands on a steep plateau toward the sea. You can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Ionian Sea and the nearby hamlet of Metaponto.

On the coast of Metaponto, several bathing establishments and various accommodation facilities exist.

Among the curiosities related to Bernalda, we have the origins of the well-known director Francis Ford Coppola.

In the center, not far from the house where his grandparents lived, he bought the ancient Palazzo and restored it to become a five-star hotel, the fourth in a chain Margherita, the director, owns in the city.

Among the major tourist attractions in Bernalda, there is the archaeological site of the Tavole Palatine.
