Bassano del Grappa is a charming city located in the province of Vicenza, in the Veneto region. Hills surround the town with a mild climate, making it an ideal destination for travelers searching for natural beauty and a relaxing atmosphere.

Places to visit

The historic center of Bassano del Grappa is a true artistic treasure, with streets adorned with works by famous artists such as Palladio, Canova, and Jacopo Da Ponte. The Civic Museum, the oldest in the Veneto region, houses many artworks and historical objects that tell the city's story. The evocative Loggia dei Potestà, with its arches and columns, is another noteworthy place.

The symbol of the city is the Ponte Vecchio, designed by Palladio. This bridge has undergone several reconstructions due to floods but has always remained faithful to its original design. Near the bridge is the Alpini Museum, which preserves historical documents and memorabilia from the Alpini era.

The city is also famous for two great traditions: ceramics and typography. Bassano ceramics, linked to the prestigious Antonibon family, can be admired in the Ceramic Museum at Palazzo Sturm.

Typography, developed by the Remondini family between the 17th and 18th centuries, has left a significant mark on the city's history.

Bassano del Grappa also boasts essential examples of medieval architecture, such as the Fortress, the city walls, the Civic Tower, the Cathedral, the Church of San Giovanni Battista, and the Church of San Francesco. These historical sites offer a fascinating overview of the city's history and are a must-visit for architecture lovers.

Gastronomy

The local cuisine is characterized by fresh and high-quality ingredients, making the dishes an unforgettable culinary experience. Bassano's DOP white asparagus is a local specialty and can be enjoyed with a simple egg sauce or as a base for delicious risottos.

Ossuary Temple

A visit to Bassano del Grappa would not be complete without a visit to the Ossuary Temple. This grand building, located on Piazzale Cadorna, just outside the city's southern walls, is a monument dedicated to the victims of the Great War.

Inside the Ossuary Temple, the remains of 5,405 soldiers are preserved, transferred in the 1930s from the numerous cemeteries scattered on the slopes of Mount Grappa. This place of memory offers a moment of reflection on the history and tragedies of the past.
