The Basilica of Santa Maria in Valvendra is an essential religious building in the Renaissance village of Lovere in Lombardy. Built in the second half of the 15th century, it takes its name from the Val Vendra stream that flows nearby. The church was commissioned and funded by noble and wealthy families who had become rich through the trade of the famous Lovere Cloth. This highly demanded woolen fabric made Lovere famous throughout Europe.

The basilica features a Lombard Renaissance style with Venetian influences. It is flanked by houses dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries, which create a suggestive and historical atmosphere.

The basilica's interior is characterized by three naves, with a central altar decorated with frescoes by Ottaviano Viviani. One of the most valuable elements of the church is the organ, considered a work of art of great value.

The altarpiece of the Assumption, the main altar of the basilica, is attributed to the Venetian painter Pietro Marone. This painting represents the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and is considered one of the masterpieces of sacred art in the region.

The Basilica of Santa Maria in Valvendra is an essential place of worship and a tourist destination for art and history lovers.

Its Renaissance architecture, artworks, and the suggestive atmosphere of the village of Lovere make it an unmissable stop for those visiting the area.
