Giosuè Carducci defines it as the City of a hundred horizons. Asolo is one of the most evocative historic centers in Italy. Collected within the ancient walls that branch off from the Rocca, a fortress of the 12th century, it preserves evidence of its millenary history in every glimpse... #tuttitaly
"City of 100 Horizons", as the poet Giosuè Carducci defined the enchanting town of Asolo, whose magnificent views have inspired artists and intellectuals.
You come to Asolo to pay homage to the Three Ladies, to toast with an Asolo Prosecco Superior in one of the cellars where the typical wine of the area is produced, and to get lost in its views and panoramas.
Extraordinary women, the Three Ladies of Asolo, fell in love with this Venetian village and made it their home: the Divine actress Eleonora Duse, the writer and traveler Freya Stark, and Queen Caterina Cornaro. A section has been dedicated to them in the Civic Museum, housed in the Palazzo del Vescovado and the Loggia della Ragione. The portraits, letters, clothes, and other personal objects on display belong to them.
The beating heart of Asolo is Piazza Maggiore (also known as Piazza Garibaldi), in the center of which we can admire the fountain of the same name dating back to the second half of the sixteenth century with the winged lion, added in 1910.
The symbol of Asolo is the Rocca. The military fortress, built between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, stands at Monte Ricco, close to the town. You can enjoy a splendid view of the Asolo hills-ding villas from here and the surround.
Another town symbol is the Castle of Queen Cornaro, built about two centuries earlier than the Rocca. It is famous for hosting Caterina Cornaro, the former queen of Cyprus and lady of Asolo, between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.
Since 1932, the structure has housed the Teatro di Asolo dedicated to Eleonora Duse; therefore, the interiors can only be visited during shows and events.
The Civic Tower is in the courtyard, which serves as a panoramic point over the city and the surrounding hills.
Gastronomy
Among the typical local dishes to be tasted: beef tripe, a popular dish par excellence of which there is a "Trevigiana" variant cooked for a long time in beef broth, abundantly informed and accompanied by toasted homemade bread.
