At the foot of the majestic Monte Civetta, in the heart of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stands Alleghe, a charming village characterized by the homonymous lake.
In summer, Alleghe is a destination for outdoor sports in an uncontaminated environment.
It is also a destination for winter sports because it is one of the ski resorts of the Ski Civetta, born in 1982.
The Civetta ski area has 80 km of ski slopes, two leading directly to Alleghe.
Curiosity
Due to a chain of five murders (1933-1946), which took place near the lake, inside a known hotel in the town, Alleghe became known as a place of crimes and atrocities wrapped in the silence of the local inhabitants.
These crimes were told in 1962 by Giovanni Comisso in the
semi-autobiographical book La donna del Lago; they also inspired the television miniseries Buio nella Valle by Giuseppe Fina in 1984 and the film La donna del Lago by Luigi Bazzoni and Franco Rossellini in 1965.
Gastronomy
In Alleghe, you can taste typical dishes of poor and peasant cuisine, but at the same time, genuine. The words are always prepared with fresh local ingredients.
To taste: polenta and mushrooms, dumplings, and various dishes based on beef and pork.
