Diocesan Museum "Mons. Corrado Leonardi" - Urbania (PU) - Montefeltro - Marche

It collects works of art and liturgical furnishings from the Paleochristian period to the present day, artefacts from Castel Durante, from the territory and the result of legacies and donations. In Urbania, the Leonardi Diocesan Museum stands majestically within the former Bishop's Palace, a building of great historical value rooted in the ancient Benedictine Abbey of San Cristoforo del Ponte. Founded in the 9th century and expanded over the centuries, this location has undergone a significant architectural transformation, moving from a Romanesque to a Renaissance style, thanks to the work of illustrious figures such as the Greek Cardinal Bessarion and the Commendatory Ludovico Canossa.

The museum, dedicated to the memory of ceramist Don Corrado Leonardi, houses a precious collection of ceramics that testify to the Urbania-Durantino tradition from the Middle Ages to the present day. Leonardi's donations have allowed the addition of unique and significant works, making the ceramics section particularly rich. Here, you can admire a variety of artifacts, including vases, pomp plates, and holy water stoups, all splendid examples of local artistic techniques from the 13th to the 20th centuries.

In addition to ceramics, the museum houses sections dedicated to archaeology, silverware, and painting, with works by renowned artists such as Ghiberti, Raffaele del Colle, and Orazio Fontana. Each piece tells a story, a connection to the past that is intertwined with the culture and identity of Urbania.

Through exhibitions and workshops, the museum not only preserves the artistic heritage but also promotes knowledge and appreciation of modern ceramic art, keeping alive a tradition that continues to produce high-quality objects today.

A visit to the Leonardi Diocesan Museum is an enriching experience, allowing you to explore a priceless heritage and discover the refined art of ceramics, whose fascination endures over time.
