A place of worship rich in art, with a truly precious space inside, both because there are unique pieces on display, and for the historical, artistic and religious value that it brings not only to Sorano but to the entire territory... #tuttitaly
In the heart of the Tuscan Maremma lies Sorano, an enchanting village known for its ancient history and unique architectural features. Carved into tuff and of Etruscan origins, Sorano is often compared to Matera for its beauty and evocative alleyways.
Recently, Sorano has inaugurated a new treasure: the Museum of the Insigne Collegiata of San Nicola. This museum further enriches the heritage of the Collegiata, which has its roots in 1276, thanks to the desire of Margherita Aldobrandeschi to build a sacred place.
After a careful restoration of the Collegiata in 2021, made possible by generous donations and a contribution from the parish led by Don Antonio Minucci, the museum opened to the public, offering a rich exhibition of works and relics that narrate significant moments in Christian and artistic history.
Among the precious testimonies preserved, stands out a chasuble of Pope John Paul II, a gift from Cardinal Comastri, and a chasuble that belonged to the emeritus Pope Benedict XVI. Additionally, the museum hosts relics of spiritually significant figures, such as Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta and Saint Padre Pio of Pietrelcina.
This structure not only safeguards artistic wonders but is also a place of deep devotion.
